Pelco Endura system and Spectra IV IP on watch at Ethiopian airport
Clovis, CA-based Pelco reports that Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia has chosen Pelco, Inc. by Schneider Electric as the provider for its digital video recording.
The new Endura video surveillance system will be used for security monitoring, as well as improving airport operation activities, the company notes.

Pennsylvania: Federal dollars will pay for Carlisle to receive video surveillance
The Borough of Carlisle, already set to go on a “road diet” next year, is getting ready to step in front of cameras, too.
Congress recently approved $200,000 for a borough public safety video surveillance project, giving Carlisle federal money to place security cameras downtown.

South Korea is about to launch a wireless video network in its subway system that will stream live video to train operators and managers—even when the trains are traveling 50 mph.
Workers install the Firetide wireless mesh network in the Seoul subway.
The Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT) began investigating real-time wireless video surveillance systems following the death of 198 people in an arson fire in 2003 in a subway in the city of Daegu.

Australia: Million-dollar surveillance system for Port of Brisbane
NICTA, the nation's ICT research centre of excellence, will receive $A1.01 million of Federal money over two years to develop an advanced video surveillance system for the Port of Brisbane.

The Department of Homeland Security has announced the allocations of its transportation security grants in fiscal year 2010, with the top five places garnered by the New York City / Northern New Jersey region ($110.6 million); the National Capital Region ($29.4 million); the Boston area ($22 million); San Francisco Bay Area ($19.9 million); and Chicago area ($17 million).

Hazelton, PA : Cameras elsewhere said to cut crime
While no formal studies have been done, it appears that a video surveillance system is responsible for a decrease in criminal activities in Lancaster.
Hazleton officials believe such a system could do the same for the city, and are hopeful that an application for $2 million in state funds for a surveillance project will be approved. Members of the newly formed A Safer Hazleton nonprofit organization are handling the grant application.
